Pentecostal hair

My hair went from "long" to "doesn't get her hair cut for religious reasons" over night it seemed. I realized it had gotten too long when I took a picture of it at work to show Valerie how long it was... And then called to get an appointment to chop it off the next day.
I went to a new hair person (as I do pretty much every time I get my hair cut since I typically go to the first place that can squeeze me in) and she was quite the bossy hair lady. Jeff refers to her as Hair Hitler, and I think that name is quite fitting. This cut isn't exactly what I had in mind, but HH didn't care. Or ask. She did what she wanted. Oh well. It's nice that I'm no longer carrying around 10 extra pounds of hair on my head!

PS my new 'do looks better when I straighten it than it does when I just wear it as-is upon waking up as seen above!

Hanging Time

About a month after moving in, we are finally starting to get some things up on the wall.

We put our chalkboard in the kitchen again:

Just when we thought he was actually getting close to being house broken... Pees on the floor (at least it wasn't on the bed again).

MH showers

This past weekend MH's wedding festivities were officially kicked off! We started Saturday morning at a bridal shower at Barb's house with a lot of family friends- we had a great time!

After leaving that shower, I raced home to finish getting ready for the couples shower Courtney and I hosted Saturday night. Thank goodness my mom was in town to help me get ready (especially since Jeff had to work). It was a great excuse to use ALL of my cake plates and try out some gluten free recipes.
I was in charge of the desserts and decorations. Tony and Courtney took care of everything else. Lots of people showed up and everyone had a great time. MH and Andrew racked up in gifts this weekend! I already had to go out and buy something that they got off their registry because I had to have it too. Hah.

Mom and I at the shower Saturday night. We were worn out from going nonstop all day.

Whitney and Collin's wedding

Our good friends Whitney and Collin got married earlier this month and a great time was had by all! Jeffrey and Whitney have been friends since grade school and Whitney and I have been friends since high school. Collin and Whitney met a few years ago, and we liked Collin from the very first time Whitney introduced us to him.

Whitney is one of my closest friends, and we are so excited for her and Collin to begin their lives together as a married couple!

They are currently on a two week European honeymoon. No, I'm not jealous, why do you ask?

The beautiful bride with all of her bridesmaids. We had a great time spending the day getting ready together and playing games to pass the time.

My handsome date and me at the reception!

Side note: It took 43 bobby pins and two pony tail holders to keep my hair up for the day. Ouch. Beauty is pain. Or something like that.

Patio

While my parents were visiting over the weekend, they took us shopping for patio furniture... and got us this as a house warming present!

Now we love our patio even more!

Patriotic Puppy!

(P.S. Should we be embarrassed that we've already become those people that pose their puppies for patriotic pictures?)

Prisoners

For four days (only two of which we were actually at home, thankfully) we felt like prisoners in our own home. And also like idiots. For some reason, we could not figure out how to work our thermostat all of a sudden.

Despite the temp being set at 72, the house remained in the 80s and the air would not kick in. We tried reprogramming it, overriding it, and resetting it. Both nights we went to bed with our house in the 80s. It was like indoor camping. Except waking up sweaty in your house is worse than if you were actually camping.

Thank God Jeffrey had an epiphany and remembered that he had taken a pin out of the air filter holder that prevented the air from running. Once that was back in, the cold air starting blowing. At least we aren't so dumb that we can't figure out how to work a thermostat. I think.

Meanwhile, we will keep hoping that our a/c does die this year so we get a new one via the home warranty. :)

Adventures in home ownership continue...

Isn't it pretty??

Nope. Sure isn't.

But after going without hot water for three days, it is nice to see! Luckily Murphy was the only one that had to endure a cold shower.

And the blood (money) letting continues...

Kitchen walls

The night before moving we decided we should probably get the kitchen painted. We had collected tons of paint swatches in the past week so we made a snap decision and I ran to HD to get the paint and supplies. We're very pleased that our choice turned out to be something we didn't hate! +1 for us!

We tend to think it's a huge improvement over the school bus yellow that was in here when we bought the house.

We are kind of kicking ourselves though because the green ceilings aren't that bad looking now. Well at least not that bad compared to their current state:
Oh well. You win some, you lose some. We're having a painter come later this week to give us a quote to get the popcorn ceilings back to white.

And the fun continues...
