Julia's weekend adventure

Julia was a super traveler (outside of our Hotel Hell time) when we went to St. Louis and Jerseyville to see friends and family.

We've had a lot of time in the car!!

We spent one night with our friends Valerie, Chris, and Madeline.

We made a stop by our friend Caitlin's apartment, too!

And finally, we made our way over to Jerseyville for a few nights where Julia met another one of her great-grandmas and several great aunts and uncles!

We had a great time seeing everyone and Julia was a hit (of course)!

Hotel Hell

Julia had her first hotel stay on our way to St. Loius. We stopped in Poplar Bluff, MO and since we knew it was her first time to go to a hotel we splurged and got a room at the Ritz Carlton! Just kidding- we stayed at the Drury Inn aka the only semi-decent hotel within 100 miles either direction.

Anyway, Julia didn't fall asleep until 11:15  (she had just slept three straight hours in the car, but still, doesn't sleep beget sleep??), and even then she would only stay asleep if she was being held and would not even consider the idea of laying down in her pack-n-play. So she slept in my arms until she woke up at 5. Then Jeff took over and held her until 7 when she ate and we were all up for the day.

Fingers crossed that the rest of our trip she gets back on her regular sleep schedule. Or at the very least, sleeps in her pack-n-play. Sharing a bed with a baby is for the birds. So is sharing a room.

I just had to document this "first" because it might be her last for a long time.

Of course now she is sleeping peacefully like last night didn't even happen. And yes, Julia is carrying my apple from the hotel breakfast. It's the least she could do.

Five months

Five months. How is that possible already? Julia's fifth month was a little rough- she got her first cold and was pretty miserable for a few weeks. And so were her parents; for one, we hated seeing her not feeling well, and for two, it totally messed with her sleep so we felt like zombies for a few days from getting up with her in the night (okay, to be fair, it's Jeff that gets up with her in the middle of the night 99% of the time to get her back to sleep but I did have to get up some when she was inconsolable and I didn't get my eight hours of sleep!).

Anyway... Julia now great head control, seems close to sitting up, likes playing in her piano exercauser, starting to take naps in her crib during the day (still has to be swaddled), loves getting kisses, puts everything she can get her hands on in to her mouth, likes standing up with our help, and is an overall easy, happy, smiley baby that we can't get enough of. She rolled from her tummy to her back a few times before turning four months, but has only done it a handful of times since then. She is now working on rolling over from her back to her tummy, but hasn't quite figured that trick out yet. She also started giggling this past month but those are still pretty rare.

We went to the doctor on the 12th since Julia had a fever over the weekend and developed a rash and was not sleeping well during the night, so we got to see how much she weighs. She weighed in at 15 lbs. The nurse measured her, but neither of us can remember what she said. Oh well. Also, the doctor couldn't explain her fussiness or sleeplessness. We were hoping for a magic cure, but I guess whatever she had just had to run its course.

Dear Julia,

Every day just gets sweeter and sweeter with you around.

Your first cold might have been harder on your parents than it was on you. We just hated seeing you not feeling well. How we wish that we could've been sick instead of you! I'm going to keep doing my best to keep you healthy.

It seems like you grow and change every day, it's amazing watching you learn new things.

You make our days brighter and we can't imagine a life without you!

Love,
Mommy

2014- Our Year in Review

January

We had our first ultrasound and confirmed there was a definitely a baby in there. But I already knew that because I had already been well introduced to the lovely morning sickness by this point.

February

Our nephew Oscar was born! We are crazy about this little dude. He has gotten cuter and sweeter every day since, if that's possible.

We had a big snow storm and got to enjoy the winter wonderland for a few days. Murphy loved it!

March

We had more snow (it was a snowy winter!), so I had some extra time at home. That was a really good thing because a lot of the time, I didn't feel like doing much besides cuddling on the couch with Murphy and taking naps. This was one exceptionally productive snow day- I started a quilt for Jeff. It's still not finished though. Hopefully 2015 will be the year it sees completion!

Jeff went fishing and camping with a few of his friends from work.

Fish dinner!

April

April was more morning sickness, home improvements (ceilings scraped and scraped and scraped!), and getting the house baby-ready!

May

MH graduated Audiology school!

Murphy's first birthday!

June

We both had a week off work for vacation to do a few things around the house and relax. We spent a night at Big Cedar Lodge and had a great time. That same week we also went to Fayetteville for a wedding and our first baby shower with my side of the family. We needed a vacation from our vacation because we went nonstop that week!

We were back in Fayetteville the next weekend for another wedding. June was a busy month of traveling for us!

July

July was mainly just waiting on Julia. We went on a lot of walks and more or less finished up baby's room.
Cousins' first picture.

August

The month we'd been counting down to all year! Julia made her grand entrance August 13th and our lives were forever changed for the better!

We celebrated our birthdays with delicious cakes from Mickey's bakery.

September

We went to our 10 year high school reunion. Hard to believe it's been over ten years since we graduated!
