For my mom

I had pretty much forgotten about this blog... but I'm back at it for my mom! Hi, mom! She apparently gets a kick out of my rehashing of my encounters with idiots and frustrations with every day life, and wants it memorialized in writing for her entertainment. One day I'll be able to see the humor too (hopefully), so it'll be nice to have this to look back on. I guess.

After looking at a million several houses over the course of five or six months, we finally had an offer accepted! Here is a picture of Jeff signing his life away. Only had to sign one ream of paper to make it official. And here's our new house! And Jeff's new car (purchased the same week as the house)! Because really, when you start doling out thousands of dollars at a time, why don't you just keep at it and buy all the things! I'm surprised we didn't go ahead and buy a boat this same week. Kidding.
Compared to a lot of the houses we looked at, we considered this house basically move in ready. But where would the fun be in just moving into a house without putting in a little blood (check!), sweat (triple check!), and tears (close enough)? So we decided we would paint it to make it more our style. Especially since our style isn't green ceilings and murals in the bedroom. This abstract city-scape is in the master bedroom. The other walls were lavender and silver. How fun. Anyway, the "artist" of that mural took it a step further and created hundreds of dents to add a little texture. And snow. Or rain. I don't know what those dents were supposed to be. After a jar of spackle, lots of sanding, and tons of primer, we were able to cover that mess up. But the wall still looks textured. Oh well. We'll just hide that with some strategically placed furniture and pictures.
Painting the master bedroom has just been one part of the fun. We've also committed ourselves to painting all the walls, the ceilings, the closets, the cabinets, and the trim. And eventually the doors. That's a lot of freaking paint. With the amount of paint and painting supplies that we've bought in the last few weeks, we should be getting the royal treatment at Wal-Mart and Home Depot. But we're not. Last night I went to buy paint at Wally World and after waiting for the paint desk clerk for 15 minutes while she helped another customer search for a dimmer switch (that, as it turns out, isn't even sold there), they didn't have the product I needed in stock so I had to leave empty handed. So today on my lunch break, I got to go to HD to get the crap. Took forever there too because I got behind a lady who appeared to be getting enough paint mixed to paint an entire apartment complex. At least I had time to look at every single paint swatch, compare the different types of rollers, and learn about the paint mixer's life.

Oh yeah, we also bought a puppy in the meantime. We weren't busy and tired enough working on the life-sucking house, so we decided to throw a puppy into the mix! He's a 6 week old goldendoodle. He likes to run around outside, dump all of his food out of his bowl, and wake up in the middle of the night for play time. And bite our ankles with his razor sharp puppy teeth. He's pretty cute though, so we think we will keep him :) And get him enrolled in some sort of obedience training class ASAP.

Much more house progress (and set-backs) to share soon. But for now I need to start packing (since we're moving into the construction zone this weekend) and to play with my puppy so he can hopefully get so worn out he decides that he needs to sleep through the night!
